Statement of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church

On the 14th September, the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church met to discuss the situation in the Ukraine and the moves by the Ecumenical Patriarch to grant a tomos of Autocephaly to a group in dispute with the Moscow Patriarchate. The Synod has stopped short of breaking eucharistic communion but it will not commemorate the Ecumenical Patriarch liturgically. Quoting directly from the statement..."In this critical situation... the Moscow Patriarchate is forced to suspend the liturgical prayerful commemoration of the Patriarch of Constantinople ... and with profound regret to suspend the concelebration with heirarchs of the Patriarchate of Constatinople..."
