The first day of the celebrations on the Isle of Wight have been a great success.
The first day has been a most glorious day.. Vladika Irenei celebrated Liturgy with Fr Michael Protopopov and Fr Andrew Phillips, with the Minsk nuns as the choir and glorious singing. There followed the unveiling of the beautiful monument with over 300 people in attendance, with remarks by the Queen's Lord Lieutenant, the Governor, the Russian Ambassador, the bishop and others. Then Vladika served a moleben and blessed the monument. Lunch followed with talks at Walton Manor where the Royal Martyrs lunched in 1909. Everyone stood before the new monument at the unvieling, and could see the British and Russian Imperial flags flying together for the first time since the Imperial family had been there all those years ago. The whole gathering sang the British National Anthem and the Imperial Russian Anthem. Thre is still much to look forward to before the celebrations draw to a close. Vladika Irenei returns to London on Sunday evening.
