Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia
The Consecration of our Cathedral

Vladika Irenei's visit coincides with the preparations for the consecration of the Cathedral on the 21st September 2018. This great event in our diocesan life falls on the Feast of the Nativity of the Mother of God which will become the Altar Feast of the Cathedral. To mark the importance of this event the Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia will meet in London on  Thursday 20th September and then participate in the consecration of the Cathedral. Attending the Synod will be the First Hierarch Metropolitan Hilarion,  Archbishop Mark, Archbishop Kyrill, Archbishop Gabriel, Archbishop Peter, Bishop Nicholas and Bishop Irenei. Bishop Nicholas will be bringing the Kursk Root Icon with him. The Diocesan clergy will be attending and also representatives of both the Diocese of Sourozh and other local Orthodox churches. A full programe of the preparations as well as the event itself will be published shortly at this site.

For your diaries: the All Night Vigil of the Consecration begins at 5.30 p.m. on the 20th September. Then the next morning the Rite of Consecration will begin with the greeting of the Metropolitan at 9.00 a.m. and is expected to start formally at about 9.30 a.m. The Hierarchal Divine Liturgy will begin at approximately 10.30 a.m. The blessing of the Memorial Cross to the Tsar Martyr Nicholas and his family will be after the Liturgy at about 2.00 p.m. followed by a reception in the Cathedral Grounds.

Please note the actual times above and also note that parking will be problematic especially on the Friday morning. There is no reserved parking for visitors.

Please pray for all involved in this momentous occasion.

The  schedule of services where the holy wonderworking Kursk Root Icon is present for the veneration of the faithful will be published as it is decided. The holy icon is present in our diocese from the morning of Wednesday 19th September until Saturday 22nd September. The icon is in the London Cathedral parish during the day of Wednesday 19th September being taken to the homes of parishioners by Fr Vitaly. It is first available for veneration at the Divine Liturgy on Thursday 20th September in the Lower Church. The Liturgy is set for 7.30.a.m. The holy icon is always present at Synod meetings so it will not be available for veneration for much of Thursday during the day. It will however be in the upper church for the Vigil of the Consecration which begins at 5.30 p.m. It will be present at the Consecration and Hierarchal Liturgy on Friday 21st September in the upper church of the Cathedral. Currently this is all that has been confirmed. As soon as more is confirmed, it will be added to this site.

Youth Camp and Pilgrimage support

With the blessing of Vladika Irenei, there is the possibility of some financial support for young people from ROCOR parishes for both the St Seraphim Youth Camp and the  St Alban's Youth Pilgrimage to Russia.

A letter from the committee administering this fund on behalf of the Diocese can be accessed here. Applicants and their famililies should have the support and blessing of their parish priests or Vladika Irenei. The Diocese is very keen to promote youth activities. If you have ideas as how this could be done please contact the Diocesan Chancellery.
