Our New Bishop and Recent Changes in Our Church

Since January 2017 our diocese has been under Metropolitan Hilarion. This has changed everything at last. In the last six weeks Hieromonk Patrick Ramsey has been helping us in our Church. Our deacon Ioan has been ordained priest and is now Fr Ioan (Parintul Ioan) and helps us with Romanian and Moldovan speakers. We now have three priests at confession on Sunday mornings and we take communion from two or three chalices. Spasimir, who after five years of study graduated last summer from the Theological Faculty of Sofia University, has been ordained deacon. God willing, on Sunday 14 May Bishop Irenei will ordain him priest in our church in Colchester and he will then help us with both Russian and Bulgarian speakers.

Thanks to our new bishop, we at last have the four priests whom we need to serve the Orthodox in the East of England, including those at the new church which opened in Norwich last September and the new community in Bury St Edmunds. Having asked for this for a long time, Fr Andrew is now not under the same pressure as before, so that he can continue to visit Orthodox who live all over Eastern England, not just in Essex, Suffolk and Norfolk, but also in Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Kent, Sussex and Hampshire, and also to visit prisoners in the four prisons in the Eastern Counties, covering 20,000 miles a year, for which he had to buy a new car last September, as the old one fell apart.

Our clergy work for nothing. This is why we have money to spare and have at last been able in just six weeks to:

1. Install a new sound system

2. Lay a new floor

3. Hang 12 chandeliers

4. Put up our cross on top of the Church roof

Someone has said that this has made our church look and feel like a cathedral. But all this has cost us 30,000. Many of you have asked how this has been possible. Where does this money come from? Simply we have saved the money that you have kindly donated over the last twelve months (20,000) and a kind person has loaned us 10,000. We would like to pay back that person as soon as possible. One kind family gave us 100. Can YOU help your Church?
